탈리스 스콜라스의 이번 판은 어떤 의미에서는 짜깁기라 보아도 좋은 물건이 되겠습니다.

그 유명한 '미제레레' 및 '교황 마르첼로를 위한 미사' 녹음으로 르네상스 음악의 센세이션을 일으키며 데뷔한 뒤,

자신들 전용 음반사 Gimell이 자리잡기 전에 EMI(였던가?) 레이블로 영어로 된 세속 마드리갈을 녹음 발매한 일이 있습니다. LP로요.

이번 판은 그때 녹음에 Gimell 딱지를 붙여 재발매한 것이고, CD 한 장에 넣기에 조금 아쉬웠던 용량은 예전에도 소개한 적이 있는 토마스 톰킨스의 종교 마드리갈(물론 영어)를 재활용하애 메워넣는 것으로 때웠습니다.ㅎ

이 판의 표지 그림으로는 피터 올리버가 그린 소녀 초상인데 추측에 의하면 이 주인공은 당대 영국을 뒤흔들었던 미모를 가졌지만, 33세의 나이에 의문의 죽음을 맞이한 여인네 베네치아 아나스타샤 스탠리(훗날 Lady Digby)였을 거라 합니다.

세속적인 가사를 다룬 음악이니 100% 사랑 노래일 것이고, 따라서 당대 남심을 뒤흔들었던 이를 주인공으로 내세운 건 어쩌면 자연스러운 선택이었겠지요.ㅎㅎㅎ

버드, 톰킨스, 기본즈 같은 당대 쟁쟁한 음악가들을 비롯하여 소소한(?) 음악가들 작품까지 르네상스 시절의 영국 노래를 두루두루 섭렵해보는 시간 되겠습니다...
