Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Juan Uribe's new three-year deal with the Dodgers will be worth $21 million.
That's quite a bit of money to be paying an over-30 infielder with a 731 career OPS, but he will immediately improve the Dodgers' middle infield defense and should bring a spark to the lineup. Uribe batted .248/.310/.440 this year with 24 home runs and 85 RBI while playing second base, shortstop and third for the Giants. He will start most games at second in Los Angeles. According to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Rangers have signed catcher Yorvit Torrealba to a two-year, $6.25 million contract. Torrealba gives the Rangers an immediate upgrade behind the plate. The 32-year-old backstop batted .271/.343/.378 with seven homers and 37 RBI over 325 at-bats with the Padres this past season, while throwing out 37 percent (22-for-60) of would-be basestealers. Because Torrealba is a Type B free agent, the Padres will get a sandwich pick in next year's draft. Nov. 29 - 5:27 pm et
A source told Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York that the Yankees "are not budging" from their original three-year, $45 million offer to Derek Jeter. The source, identified as "close to the negotiations," also told ESPN New York that Jeter and his agent need to "drink the reality potion." Jeter is thought to be asking for a five-year deal worth around $22-$24 million per season, but he's not going to come close to that because the Yankees have no real reason to up an offer that is already quite generous. Jeter is 36 years old, lacks good range at shortstop and hit just .270/.340/.370 in 2010. Nov. 29 - 12:54 pm et
