Red Sox acquired outfielder Jeremy Hermida from the Marlins for LHP Hunter Jones and LHP Jose Alvarez.
The Washington native was found with 3.3 grams of marijuana and a pipe
after being pulled over for speeding. He was fined a total of $622 for
driving at 74 mph in a 60-mph zone and for possession of marijuana and
drug paraphernalia. If he were a 25th man, this is the kind of thing
that could get Lincecum released. As is, it's doubtful he'll face any
sort of punishment from the Giants.

Red Sox acquired outfielder Jeremy Hermida from the Marlins for LHP Hunter Jones and LHP Jose Alvarez.
Hermida, the 11th overall pick in the 2002 draft, frustrated with the
Marlins with injuries and unexceptional play in four years as a major
leaguer and there was no way the team was going to pay him $3 million
or so in his second year of arbitration. Still, it's a shame that they
couldn't do better than a pair of generic left-handers. Hermida still
has a lot of promise. He hit .296/.369/.501 in 123 games in 2007, and
he's just going to be 26 next year. The Red Sox may not be content with
him as a regular in the event that Jason Bay leaves, but they couldn't
pass on the chance to acquire him at this price.
