Orlando Hudson

Speaking on the MLB Network Monday, free agent Orlando Hudson said he's not close to a deal with any team.
"To be honest with you man, you know, the Dodgers, Yankees, Mets -- all three of us have had some discussions," Hudson said when asked about suitors. "And the Nationals also, the Washington Nationals. Yup, yup. So those four guys we are in conversation with and, you know, hopefully things work out in the end, but right now we're discussing some things and see how things look." The idea of signing with one of the New York teams looks like nothing more than wishful thinking from Hudson. He'd be quite an upgrade for the Dodgers and especially the Nats. Also, there's been some talk about the A's making a bid, likely with the intention of moving Mark Ellis to short.

Justin Verlander

Verlander, who was eligible for arbitration for the first time, asked for $4.15 million and was offered $3.2 million. He could have been in line to break some arbitration records had he won 17-18 games again, but he finished 11=17 with a 4.84 ERA in 2008.

Garrett Atkins

Rockies agreed to terms with third baseman Garrett Atkins on a one-year, $7.05 million contract.
Atkins submitted a $7.95 million request in his second season of arbitration eligibility, while the Rockies countered at $6.65 million. He gets a raise of nearly $3 million despite seeing his OPS drop 73 points last season and 175 points over the past two years.

Brad Wilkerson

With the days winding down to the start of spring training, the Boston Red Sox have added more depth, agreeing to terms with outfielder/first baseman Brad Wilkerson on a minor league deal, according to a baseball source. The deal is pending a physical.
The 31-year-old lefthanded hitter hit .220 last season between Seattle and Toronto, with 4 home runs and 28 RBIs. He was released by the Mariners in May before signing on with the Blue Jays. Though he didn't show it last season, Wilkerson does have some power, having hit at least 20 home runs in three of his seven full seasons in the majors.
If Wilkerson reaches the big leagues in 2009, he will be paid a prorated portion of the $400,000 major league minimum. His deal includes incentives that could bring his payout to $1.5 million.
The Sox already seem to have a full outfield with Jason Bay, Jacoby Ellsbury, and J.D. Drew, plus reserves Rocco Baldelli and Mark Kotsay. Baldelli, though, does come with concerns about his health, having sat out much of last season with muscle fatigue issues. He was diagnosed with channelopathy this
