Phillies agreed to terms with first baseman Ryan Howard on a three-year, $54 million contract.
Howard was a super-two player last year, so this merely buys out his remaining three years of arbitration. Still, it seems like a fine deal for the Phillies, considering that they'll no longer have to fear what an arbitration panel might choose to award him. Howard made $10 million last year and asked for $18 million for this season. Had he won in arbitration again, he could have asked for something like $22 million in 2010 and $25 million in 2011. Instead, he's opted to take just $18 million per year until he becomes eligible for free agency after 2011. He's no bargain at that price, but the Phillies get him for a reasonable figure without having to lock him up beyond what figure to be his prime seasons.

3년 54M계약했습니다. 지난해 10M을 받았고 올시즌 18M을 요청했다. 그가 다시 연봉조정에서 승리했다면 그는 2010년 22M, 2011년에는 25M을 요청할수 있다. 대신 그는 2011년 FA가 될때까지 매년 18M을 받는걸 선택했다고 합니다.
이로서 필리스 페이롤이 130M까지 올라갔다고 합니다. (지난시즌 페이롤은 98M입니다.)

What is Scott Boras feeding this guy? "We're in the seventh inning and I'm waiting for my pitch," Ramirez said Saturday. "Understand me, I have goals. I know that if I play six more years, I could get to my 3,000th hit, and, who knows, maybe my 700th home run." Those sound like nice marketing tools for any club, but there are no indications that a lengthy contract is on its way. Manny has only received offers from the Dodgers so far this offseason, and the most recent one was for one-year, $25 million.

Teahen was able to get the Royals to go above the midpoint after asking for $3.85 million and being offered $3.05 million in his second year of arbitration. The 27-year-old currently looks like the Royals' 10th man, but he could get an audition at second base this spring. Odds are that he'll be in the lineup more often than not.

The CBS television affiliate in San Francisco reported on Saturday that Crede had received the offer, but did not go into contract details. Club officials could not be reached for comment, but there was no mention of an offer when general manager Brian Sabean talked to reporters during the Giants' KNBR/Giants FanFest at AT&T Park.
The GM did say the organization has made veteran infielder Rich Aurilia an offer of a Minor League contract.
Crede, selected in the fifth round of the 1996 First-Year Player Draft by the White Sox, has spent his entire career with the South Siders. He helped the White Sox capture the 2005 World Series championship and has battled through back injuries while compiling a .257 career batting average with 125 home runs and 422 RBIs.

Beane should be back early this week. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the "A's are not interested in Cabrera if he's still looking to make in the $9 million range he earned last year with the Chicago White Sox." Beane is looking for a bargain here, but the A's will probably have to pony up at least a little cash if they want to land the shortstop. He has apparently considered sitting out the first few weeks of the season if a strong offer doesn't come before then.
