Indians and OF Shin-Soo Choo avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $3.975 million contract.
The Indians were hoping to sign Choo to a long-term extension this offseason, especially once he got an exemption from Korean military duty. But that never worked out, and it appears that they'll go year-to-year for him through his arbitration seasons. The 28-year-old hit .300/.401/.484 with 22 homers, 90 RBI and 22 stolen bases over 144 games for the Tribe in 2010.

The Brewers struck a record $15.5 million, one-year agreement with first baseman Prince Fielder and also signed left-hander Manny Parra on Tuesday, leaving three players still eligible for arbitration. Fielder will earn the highest single-season salary in Brewers history, $2 million more than is due organizational newcomer Zack Greinke in 2011.
